Behind the Scenes: Supply Chain Day 2026 Showcases Diversity and Career Opportunities in Germany’s Third-Largest Economic Sector
On April 16, 2026, the 19th edition of the Europe-wide “Supply Chain Day” took place. Amazon, Dachser, Lufthansa Cargo, Zalando, and numerous other companies, organizations, and institutes organized a total of 85 events—either on-site, online, or in a hybrid format—where approximately 1,800 participants could learn more about the organizers’ day-to-day processes and career opportunities. Through this event, the logistics industry highlights its relevance, diversity, and potential as an employer.
For “Supply Chain Day” on April 16, 2026, 67 companies, organizations, and institutions opened their doors to showcase the diverse roles and career opportunities in logistics. This year marked the 19th edition of the Europe-wide event. 85 free in-person, online, and hybrid events across Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, and Ukraine offered the interested public the opportunity to experience logistics firsthand and learn more about the sector. Across all events, Supply Chain Day 2026 attracted approximately 1,800 participants.
Among the highlights of this year’s event were guided tours of the logistics and distribution centers of Amazon, Dachser, Hermes, and Zalando at the companies’ various locations throughout Germany. Visitors gained insights into air freight operations at Lufthansa Cargo at Frankfurt Airport and at UPS at Cologne/Bonn Airport, among other places. Numerous port and terminal operators as well as ocean freight logistics companies also opened their doors, hosting events at the ports of Berlin, Brunsbüttel, Duisburg, Hamm, Koblenz, Lübeck, Wörth, and Wesel.
Other formats included career orientation events such as the “Vom Klicken bis zum Klingeln” fair in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, where students could learn about training and career opportunities at booths from around 30 companies, as well as specialized events like a series of lectures and workshops organized by the Logistics Initiative Hamburg. Online discussion panels and other digital events were also on the program, such as a workshop by the startup Movitus on artificial intelligence in everyday logistics. At the international level, the Department of Marketing and Logistics at the Ukrainian National University “Lvivska Polytechnika” organized a hybrid event for students featuring lectures, discussions, and workshops on resilience and cybersecurity.
“We’re thrilled to be part of the success of Supply Chain Day again this year. This allowed us to demonstrate the importance of efficient logistics to over 170 visitors at our locations across Germany. Because what customers expect today—namely, fast, reliable delivery of their orders—is exactly what we deliver. Literally. In over 70 German cities, orders arrive the same day; in Munich, for example, in under two hours. This is made possible by a logistics system that we have consistently refined for our customers over the past 25 years,” said Lena Sprenger, Director Amazon Prime Europe at Amazon. The world’s leading online retailer not only participated with events at 17 of its logistics, sorting, and distribution centers but also supported Supply Chain Day for the fifth consecutive year as a Premium-Partner.
The day before, as part of the event, a press conference was held to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the logistics sector in these turbulent economic times. There, Prof. Dr. Christian Kille, a professor at the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt and co-initiator of the “Logistikweisen,” discussed the study “Arbeitswelt (Intra-)Logistik,” published at the end of March by the initiative “Die Wirtschaftsmacher” and the trade fair organizer EUROEXPO Messe- und Kongress-GmbH. It shows that logistics is viewed as a future-proof employer, though it is subject to certain prejudices. Following this, Frank Huster, CEO of the DSLV Federal Association of Freight Forwarding and Logistics, presented the political and media perspective on the sector based on a recent DSLV report. He, too, emphasized the relevance and often underestimated diversity of career paths in logistics.
The next Supply Chain Day will take place on April 15, 2027.
